Treating Ringworm in Children With Home Remedies

Ringworm is a fungal infection that is usually mild and affects humans and also animals. In humans, ringworm affects the body, feet scalp and groin in particular. One way of identifying a ringworm infection is that the affected person will have a red circular patch that has raised and scaly borders on the infected areas. A ringworm infection is usually very itchy. When a person has ringworm infection on the feet, itchy patches appear between the toes. When there is a scalp infection, there will be dandruff like patches on the infected areas and temporally loss of hair is usually observed. To treat these infection in children, some parents usually use topical steroids but it is advisable to use them under medical supervision and only if home remedies don't work.

Precautionary measures must be taken before you use the home remedies. The first and most important thing is if you have pets in the house that usually play with your child, inspect it to make sure that it is free of the ringworm infection. In case it has the infection, you should take it to the veterinary and have it treated so as to avoid it reinfecting your child or someone else. The family clothes should be washed separately from those suspected to have come into contact with the infection and also check if there is someone else who may have caught the ringworm. Make sure to use separate comb, towel and beddings for the child. If still attending school, the child should be advised against sharing hats, clothings or anything that may cause infection to spread to other children.

Ringworm Home Remedies

One of the home remedies is using raw papaya to make a pulp and rubbing it on the infected areas of the skin. You could also make a paste using dried papaya seeds and use it to apply on the patches.

Using ground mustard seeds you can make a paste which is applied on the infected areas, left for about 10 minutes after which hot water can be used to wash it off.

Perhaps one of the most effective known home remedy is the use of raw tumeric juice on the areas infected. The juice can also be mixed with some honey and a teaspoon given to the child.

A thick paste of a teaspoon of lime juice mixed with gridded dry butea seeds is also used on infected areas. You should leave it for 30 minutes before washing it.

Another know remedy is the use of coconut oil which should be applied about two times everyday till the infection is gone.
